GG traveling trophies

You might be aware that the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers have the potential to take possession of a long-existing traveling trophy this Friday night when they play Stephen/Argyle Storm! Currently held by the Storm, the Top of the State Conference traveling trophy was started in the early 90’s and traveled between all the original teams in the conference – a tradition that is still held between all original teams today. The last time we had this trophy in our possession was in 2012 – the team (and coaches) are hopeful to bring this trophy back home after Friday night’s game this week!
Chargers Football Coach, Jason Grandstrand, has been inspired to take this idea and develop a tradition in which we have a traveling trophy for every team we currently play.
As of present, we have the “Beast of the East” traveling trophy with Clearbrook/Gonvick in which a bull and bear are fighting against each other. The Bears developed the trophy last year and held it because of their 45-18 victory over the Chargers. We got it back, however, on Thursday, August 30th, when we defeated the team 46-0! That trophy is in Grygla today.
We also have the inaugural “Battle of the Agassiz” trophy with Northern Freeze in which a football helmet displays each school on a side. This is also in the trophy case at the Grygla School because of our 34-8 win over the Freeze on Friday, September 14th.
Lastly, is the “Golden Helmet” that travels between us and KCC. That trophy is currently on display at KCC but will (hopefully) be coming to Grygla after we defeat KCC in the 2018 Charger’s Homecoming Football game on Friday, October 5th!
Grandstrand says the traveling trophies sit behind the goal post of each game with the winning team running over to claim possession. Hopefully soon, the Chargers will add more trophies that will travel, in addition to the ones they currently share between Clearbrook/Gonvick, Northern Freeze and KCC, all pictured to the right.
