Red Lake County Fair Demonstrations

The Red Lake County Fair held demonstrations on Saturday, June 23 at the Oklee Community Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There was several items for sale and to make and it was fun for all ages!
Louise Manecke Cullen demonstrated how to make Polk Country Barn Quilts. Hickory Backroads was there and had a quick class on how to make succulent boxes, Kelly Melin and Joni Bjerklie ran that. Pat Asselin did Pop Bottle Art where she showed how to make flowers out of pop bottles. Steve Kerner set up a model train that was bigger than last years , he had plastic and metal trains and spoke about which is easier to use and cheaper to purchase.
Aliza Olson and her friend were there and they demonstrated how to spin wool and dog hair to make different types of yarn, mainly single and double strand yarn. Jessie Hamrum and Natalie Hamrum showed how to make greeting cards of all types and had some for sale as well. Shirley Strand and Margret Hamrum had demonstrations on embroidering, crocheting, and making taggy blankets, they also had a select few things for sale.
Lynn Sundrud demonstrated the different styles of Rosemaling that hail from Norway. Styles such as Telemark, which is decribed as graceful, elongated leaf forms with root and main stem, broad c-shaped leaves and transparent or another style, Hallingdal, which is colorful with a wide variety of forms and treatment, usually symmetrical and with real roses.
Lastly, Shirley Dessellier had two different demonstrations. She had Crock Pot Cooking and Coaster Making with Tiles.
