The Red Lake County Central High School SADDs group sponsored a contest at the RLCC Elementary School that ended on Tuesday, April 10. The fundraiser, Pennies for Patients, was put on to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society kids and teens.
Over 12,000 children will be diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and while progress has been made over many years, there is still room for improvement. Promoting awareness will aid in investing into cancer research to find cures. Students can benefit from fundraising for Pennies for Patients in several ways, some being the firsthand involvements that make a difference in others’ lives, and learning service to others, leadership, and building character.
The contest ran from April 3-9th, and the students from second grade in Mrs. Penni Nelson’s class raised the most money, $141.71, and earned a pizza party for their accomplishments. In total, K-6 grade raised $955.10, and all of the proceeds went out to help those with leukemia or lymphoma.
