Grandmother Voices to perform

April 15th   1:00 pm
Bagley Library
Hosted by Farm By The Lake
Grandmother Voices blend cultures with music, songs and stories. The show grew from an event where Anishinabe storyteller, Anne Dunn, was invited to tell her stories at the Evansville Art Center and Singer/Songwriter, Patty Kakac, was told to “bring your guitar”.
It became a “magical” collaboration.
Anne Dunn, from Grand Rapids area, is also an author and poet.  Her stories and poems have been published in several books. The latest one, Fire in the Village, as well as several of her older books may be found on Amazon.com
Patty Kakac, from Evansville, MN, has written well over 100 songs.  She has recorded 4 CD’s; 2 as solo albums and 2 as the Granary Girls.  Her songs have been played on folk stations across the US as well Canada, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and several other countries.  Her voice has been likened to Joan Baez and Judy Collins.
Grandmother Voices has been performed in several communities in central Minnesota.
In 2015 Patty and Anne took the show to France, performing several concerts in the Toulouse area.  Though Anne and Patty are the corp group they will often invite other women to perform with them.
This show will include Paulette Friday (storyteller) and Sharon Saxton (drummer), both from Alexandria.  Paulette has written and produced several shows with songs and stories about immigration, the Civil War and the 30's.  Her Civil War show, The Recent Unpleasantness, was performed in the Bagley and Fosston area in the spring of 2017.
“Grandmother Voices echo the wisdom garnered on a journey through life. The elders tell us when we are old we should have something to say and we should say it in such a way that others will want to listen."  Anne Dunn
