Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears were honored at Champions Night

Friday, February 23 brought several Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears back to be honored. Businesses, community groups and individuals have all given the school sports and activities much support over the years. Several people were unable to attend due to distance, weather and coaching commitments with their own children.
Teams and 1000 point scorers were recognized for their efforts.
1000 point club and 1000 rebound club were honored. The first two members in 1991 were Bryan Westrum 1165-1991 and Kris Hopperstad 1200-1991. In 1992 it was Jeff Brunsberg and he is also the all-time boys scorer, 1997-1992 . In 1994 - Chris Schmitz 1303-1994; In 1996 - Ryan Voigt 1201-1996; In 2002 Chris Westrum 1188-2002; In 2006 - Katie Anderson 1071-2006; In 2007 - Heidi Kjolhaug 1361-2007 and Clayton Johnson 1211-2007; In 2010 Brennan Bakke 1178-2010; In 2011 - Brooke Wraa 1391-2011 and Whitney Rogstad 1158-2011; In 2016 - Madison Stenzel 1687-2016 and Sam Lavin 1101-2016; In 2017 - Liz Bodensteiner 2006 points and and 1052 rebounds. Liz is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder for the Bears and the only member of the 2000 point club and 1000 rebound club.
The very first Sub-section Champion team was 1990-1991. The team of trailblazers began a run of success for the Bears. The team included: Shawn Johnson, Jeff Ostrom, John Ostrom, Jeremy Goudge, Steve Belland, Shannon Roepke, Bryan Westrum, Shane Roepke, Jeremy Bakken, Jeff Brunsberg, Joe Johnson, Rusty Johnnson, Perry Torgerson, Yash Gustafson, Craig Nelson, Trent Thorson, John Griffith. They were coached by Steve Philion, Bob Westrum and Dion Bagaason. Managers and stats were Jeremy Erickson, Yonnie Eiden, Hayley Johnson, Michelle Steile, and Marik Moen. The first girls team to win the Sub-Section championship was in 2006-2007. The team showed the way to success. Team members included: Amanda Eck, Kate Aakre, Jarica Hamnes, Heidi Kjolhaug, Erica Brammer, Paige Hamnes, Maria Kjolhaug, Karli Watne, Rebecca Gunvalson, Claire Rydeen, and Nikki Churness. They were coached by Ross Faldet.
The boys team of 1991-1992 went a step further by winning the Section Championship and becoming the first Bears team to play at the state tournament. The girls teams from 2011-2012; 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 marked the beginning of a run of three championships in four years.
