From her first job at the Tastee Freeze in Bowbells, North Dakota to her last job at Dr. Beard’s Dental Clinic in Clearbrook, DonnaRae Jacobson has traveled many miles. She started working for Dr. Beard in 2008. According to DonnaRae the best part of the job was meeting the patients and working with the staff. Learning the technical terms was the most challenging for her. What attracted her to the Dental Clinic was that it fell within her personal mission statement, “Building towards a brighter today and tomorrow through learning, sharing and caring.”
After she finished high school she switched from an emphasis on dental and received her BS degree in home economics from North Dakota State University, her M.Ed.in Vocational Education from the University of Minnesota and graduate work in Applied Behavioral Science.
Her working careers included: Sears Audit Department; North Dakota Air National Guard Credit Union; Dietary Counseling Service in Crookston; Marketer of Appliances in NW MN for Rott-Keller; faculty position with U of MN Extension Services for East Polk and NW Minnesota, NSDU Extension Service state extension specialist and University of Wisconsin Extension for Oneida County.
During her career she received an Outstanding Service award from the Red River Valley Winter Shows; Recognition as one of the founding directors of the Red River Valley Emerging Leadership Program; Recognition for contributions as a national trainer at the University of Missouri- Columbia; North Dakota State University
Extension Service Program Excellence Award; Carlson Learning Company Star Sales award and President of the North Dakota affiliate of American Associate of Family and Consumer Sciences.
According to DonnaRae, one of her biggest joys in life was raising her son, Bryan Jacobson and seeing him grow professionally and as a man. A gift that he has given her is his wife, Vicki and grandchildren, Tanner, Cole, Mackenzie, Drew and Matthew.
In discussing her retirement, DonnaRae says she will miss all the patients and staff from work.
Future plans are to bring on more time with her family and time to tackle house organization and cleaning. Another goal is to take dog obedience class with her dog, Cooper, which should be another step with many miles to go in her new life adventures.
