Clearbrook-Gonvick's one act play performance at sub-sections had the audience laughing and gasping at the same time!!! This year's play, entitled, "Horror Movie 101: Failing Can Be Deadly" was a spoof on the horror movie genre. The play, written by Steven Stack, is presented by arrangement with Theatrefolk.
Sub-sections 29A were held at the Bagley High School. Six schools participated including Bagley, Blackduck, Clearbrook-Gonvick, Fosston, Red Lake County Central and Win-E-Mac. Winning this year was the Bagley High School with “Anatomy of Gray” and second place was Fosston’s entry “The Orphan Train.” Both those teams went on to the next round of competition in Roseau on February 3. Bagley High School won and will take their play to the State Contest.
This year's Clearbrook-Gonvick cast included: Xavier Goodwin, Savannah Rankin, Danika Harmon, Callie Baker, and Jazmyn Smith. Make-up was done by cast members, assisted by Kendehl Ballard. Kendehl Ballard and Daniel Rankin teamed up to do great lighting effects.
Students selected the play before Christmas and have been working hard to memorize lines, cues, and stage movement since then.
Although the play did not place high enough to advance to the section tournament, we will be doing an encore performance during "Evening of the Arts"---watch for date and time!! Thanks to our parents and everyone who stopped by to watch the dress rehearsal--we love working in front of an audience!
