Red Lake County Central Sends 16 to Creativity Festival

Red Lake County Central sent 16 students in fifth through eighth grades to the Creativity Festival planned by the Northwest Service Cooperative. It was held Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at Bemidji State University. Attending were fifth graders: Dylan Dahle, Hannah Dudycha, and Evelynn Klamm and, Trevor VamDam; sixth graders: Caden Lee, Keira Morinville, Peyton O’ Neill, and Abraham Sepulveda; seventh graders: Kaleb Roussy, Caleb Nymann, Gunnar Sandeen, and Shawna Majeres; and eighth graders Jed Duden, Lauren Jones, Kjerstin Nelson and, Marissa Schiebe.
The festival focuses on the arts, nature, science, creativity, and problem-solving. They hope to inspire students with the hands-on activities. The keynote presenter was a very skilled magician. Some of his acts included cracking a stick with a whip, spinning a ball on a stick while balancing on a ladder, and he juggled machetes while doing those things.
Students could choose three breakout sessions to attend. There were 17 session to attend such as Amazing Animals, Theater Exploration with Masks and Improv, Fun with Photography, Mixed dolls, Mad about science, and Inside a frog with clay. Some other sessions were the Mad Science, Raptors Rule, and Globe Games. In Mad Science they learned about liquid nitrogen and what hydrogen looks like on fire. In the Raptors Rule session they learned about different birds and how they hunt, and they also learned about many different types of owls. Another session was the Globe Games. Here they learned about different types of circus items and how they were made.
One RLCC student that attended was Kaleb Rousey. His favorite part of the Festival was the Mad Science station because “it was very interesting and was very cool to see all the little experiments.” Another student, Caleb Nymann, said his favorite part was the science station because “it was really fascinating.”
