Otting Honored as Minnesota 4-H Volunteer of the Year

Crissy Otting of Bagley has received the 2018 Minnesota 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is given to an individual who has volunteered for 4-H less than 10 years and selected from nominees across the state. She was presented with the award at the annual Clearwater County 4-H Awards program in November.

In nominating Crissy for the award, Katie Becker, Clearwater County 4-H Program Coordinator, shared that Crissy is an active volunteer in 4-H horse programs, serving as a project bowl coach and county horse committee leader and arranging educational clinics. She is also a leader in the Bits N Spurs 4-H club and an active member of the county 4-H leader’s council.  

A number of young people contributed to the nomination, with one young person stating, “Without her, our horse program would be hard pressed to run smoothly, but under her instruction it runs like a well-oiled machine.”  Crissy’s volunteer efforts has developed young people who show leadership through planning, effective communication, and decision making. 

Crissy was chosen by a panel of judges from an outstanding list of nominees. As the Minnesota honoree, she advances to the north central region judging. 

Minnesota 4-H supports over 11,000 youth and adult volunteers who engage young people in a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Volunteers are critical to the success of 4-H programs and making a difference in the lives of youth.
