Services for Donald Livingstone
Donald Everett Livingston, 92, of Bemidji, MN and Clearbrook, MN, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji, MN.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, Minnesota. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Silver Creek Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born August 31, 1922 in Brandon, MN, the son of Reverend Edward Livingston and Diana (Swenson) Livingston. He was baptized September 24, 1922 at West Moe Church in Brandon, MN. In 1928, the family moved to Blackduck, MN, and then moved to Clearbrook, MN in 1935. Donald was confirmed by his father in 1937 in the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Clearbrook, MN. He graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1940. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN from 1940-1941 and then attended Dunwoody Institute of Minneapolis for Machine Shop Drafting. He worked for Grayco Co. of Minneapolis as a tool grinder and cutter. Donald enlisted in the 8th Air Force in February of 1943 and served until May 1944. On March 19, 1944, Donald was united in marriage to Arvilla Bernice Granley. Three children were born of their union, David, Richard, and Ann. In 1947, Donald graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then lived in Duluth working for Western Electric until 1950. He accepted a job with Collins Radio (Rockwell) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in March of 1951. He retired in 1985 and moved with Arvilla to Clearwater Lake in 1986.
Donald was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Clearwater Lake Area Association, and the American Legion. He loved to refurbish and repair cars and grow tomatoes in his garden. He was quite the handy man around the house and could fix pretty much anything. He will be very missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Bardwell (Chris) Ross of Bemidji, MN; his son, Richard (Barbara) Livingston of Marshalltown, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Glory-Lynne Livingston of Wellsville, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arvilla (Granley) Livingston; his parents, Rev. Edward and Diana (Swenson) Livingston; and his son, David Livingston.
