Bryn Mawr counselors visit in Gonvick

Bryn Mawr,  Pennsylvania offers a camp for  girls 6 to 15. Needed for the girls are camp counselors and three of them visited Gonvick recently.
The three Van Der Zee from the Netherlands, Louise Burton from Wales and Rosaleen Mills from England had been working at Bryn Mawr camp for seven weeks. The camp had 300 girls where they offered sports, creative, science and enrichment. It also included zip line and rock climbing.
After their work at the camp they wanted to see a little bit more of America before they headed home. They rented a car and began their adventure. They traveled across to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore National Memorial where U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are carved. From there they called the Gunvalsons in Gonvick and wanted to know if it was OK to stop by to visit them.
Van Der Zee is the grandson of a family that Cheri Gunvalson was an exchange student with 40 years ago.
They arrived in Gonvick and were treated to a wild rice lunch which was something new to them. They toured Gunvalson’s rice and potato farm and were given a pontoon ride on Clearwater Lake. None of them had ever been on a real lake. On their drive they saw deer, beaver and fox.
The three left the next morning as one had to leave out of the Chicago airport and the other two were leaving out of a New Jersey airport back to their homes.
Quite a little jaunt for the three counselors.
