The Rodeo is coming to the Fair

Red Lake County Fair is coming to Oklee June 23-24-25. This year marks the first time the Red Lake County Fair has offered a Rodeo as part of the events. The two day Rodeo will be a fun and exciting event to go to this year. Advance Tickets will be sold for the Rodeo and Baja Race until the 22th of June. The Advanced Tickets are available at Brooks and Oklee Cenex, Plummer Creamery, Carol Cozy, Wrights Consignment in Red Lake Falls, and Oklee Lumber. Tickets will be available at the gate the days of the rodeo.

The Red Lake County Fair’s Rodeo is coming with two days of rodeo events. It is the 1st year that the Fair Board has hosted the rodeo. The rodeo events start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24. This rodeo has been dubbed “the best little rodeo around” and provides up close and personal views of rodeo livestock and dangerous bulls from the WoJo Rodeo Company. There are bucking broncos, trick riders, rodeo clowns, barrel racers, steer wrestlers, calf ropers, and bull riders to keep you entertained throughout the show. Many of these riders are competing for monetary prizes, and some local riders are trying to vie for prize money for their very first time. There are nine full events for both evenings, and there will be a rodeo activity for the little buckaroos during intermission both evenings. 

There are going to be several different vendors such as jewelry and apparel vendors, many food vendors, a coffee wagon, and Watkins.  At the fair there will also be several service organization such as ICCC and GVTEL with valuable information. 

Red Lake County will kick off fair week with an opening ceremony on Friday, June 23, at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Red Lake County Central School. After the ceremony there will be donuts and coffee for the public. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the public is welcome to enter their projects in the Open Class entry. The Fair is looking forward to many new exhibitors for the Open Class. This is where you can shine with your project or gardening skills can be entered and win premiums. 

At 1:00 p.m. Senior Citizens are invited to attend the Senior Citizen event at the Oklee Community Hall where an Outstanding Senior Citizen Award will be given out. Play BINGO to win prizes. 

Grab a friend and meet at the East side of the RLCC High School for a scavenger hunt at 4:00 p.m.  At 5:00 p.m. is a 4-H horse show. 

The Friday night WoJo Rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m. After the Rodeo, come on down to the Dance at the Barn. The band playing on Friday night is “Gravel Highway”. There will be food and beverage vendors at the Barn. 

On Saturday, June 24 at 8:15 a.m. 5K registration begins on the South side of the RLCC High School. If you are interested in taking part in the 5K, contact Jessie at Jessie.hamrum@gmail.com. 

From 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, there will be kids and adults games at the school. A Bounce House will be set up and open at 11:00 a.m. 

Many great demonstration will be going on from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bobbie Olson will be doing Sign Making classes with a cost of $25.00.  There will be Rosemaling with Connie Nelson.  Pat Asselin will have a demonstration on Daisy Pop Bottle Flowers.  Thief River Falls Model Railroad Organization will have Model Train Demonstrations. There will be a demonstration on T-shirt Bags with Shirley Dessellier. The t-shirt will be provided which means no cost. During this demonstration you will be able to learn how to sew a straight seam. The Otter Tail Power Company will have a class on high wire electrical safety. There will be Peg Loom Weaving and Carding Machine with Aleza Olson and Nancy Vraa. Jessie Hamrum and Natalie Aamot will have a Card Making demonstration and cards will be for sale. Joann Papke will have Yoga with moves for all ages. There is fun for all ages! Cookies, bars, lemonade and coffee will be available for everyone. 

At Noon, is the Tractor Peddle Pull Contest and at 2 p.m. a Kid’s Baja, so bring your children and a battery powered motorized vehicle in for a spin around the Baja track.

At 3 p.m. the Back Seat Driver Contest will be up and running for lots of fun for all ages. 

Movie time for the children at the School Lunchroom at 4:00 p.m. The perfect time to cool down and enjoy a snack. 

The Saturday night WoJo Rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m. and afterwards come on down to the Fair Barn and enjoy some music and food with a Saturday night Barn Dance, music with a DJ. There will be a beer garden and food available at the event.

Sunday, June 25 Bingo will be played at the Fair Barn for anyone that is interested at 10:00 a.m.  At Noon, there will be a Variety and Talent Show at the Fair Barn. 2:00 p.m. is the 4-H Awards program also at the Barn. 

The 3rd Annual BAJA race will be held at the South Park (2 miles south & 1 mile west of Oklee) at 3:00 p.m.  

At 6:00 p.m. the release of exhibits will take place in the gym. Anyone who participated in Open Class entry needs to collect their entries and pick up their awards.
