American Legion gathers for Flag Day!

On a beautiful June 14th evening, many people from the Oklee Community gathered at the Oklee Area Veteran's Park for the Flag Day Ceremony of disposing of disrepaired flags.

The American Legion Post $159 and the Auxiliary came with many delicious dishes along with others for this potluck meal. The Oklee Locker donated the meat for the event.

The flags were gathered on a table before the meal and after everyone was done, the American Legion members began their ceremony to dispose of the disrepaired flags honorably.

The Legion members lined the sidewalk and Commander Rick Dulka, Chaplain Don Stenberg and Einar Kvasager performed the ceremony and then dropped the flags, one by one into the fire to be disposed of properly as the other men present arms. 

After the ashes are cooled they are collected and buried in an undisclosed area so they will not be disturbed.
