Three members from the Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA Chapter recently attended the 88th Minnesota FFA Convention, April 23-25 at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Speakers, awards, competitions, workshops and sessions were some of the highlights for the 3,603 FFA members from Minnesota attending the convention, celebrating the convention theme, “All In: Our Legacy Starts Now.”
Career Development Events - More than 30 Career Development Events (CDE) cover job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. Some events allow students to compete as individuals, while others allow them to compete in teams. The Clearbrook-Gonvick members participated in two of the convention’s Career Development Events. Sophomore, Jacey Tronnes earned a gold ribbon in the Fish & Wildlife competition and 8th grader, Rose Java earned a bronze ribbon in the Meats Evaluation competition. Both girls represented their chapter well.
Chapter Awards - Numerous chapter awards are also given out at the State FFA Convention. The Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA Chapter received two awards. For their first year of participating in the Minnesota FFA Corn Drive which sponsors the True Friends organization in their efforts of funding Camp Courage, the Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA received a First Year Donation Friendship award. Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA also received an award for their growth in membership.
Minnesota State FFA Choir - The Minnesota State FFA Choir has been a longtime tradition of the Minnesota FFA Convention. This year the choir was directed by Ms. Katy Westrom from Pinewood Elementary School in Monticello, Minnesota. Freshman, Savanna Rankin from the Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA Chapter sang in the State FFA Choir this year. She is the first member from the chapter to participate in the state choir and earned a speaking part during the one of the performances. Savanna enjoyed her involvement in the choir during convention and said that it is definitely something she would like to do again in the future.
