RLCC Choir & Band Shine!
On Thursday, April 9th the gymnasium filled with members of our community to listen and be entertained by the Red Lake County High school choir & band.
The Music Director Patty Mickelson explained to the audience that in planning for this concert, the students and Mickelson talked about what composers write music for today as compared to what musical needs were in the past. Mickelson went on to say, that most of the music heard at the concert will be familiar to the audience.
The evening began with the Junior High Choir singing "Tomorrow" with soloists Adrianne Jones and Sidney Olson. The boys( Phillip Sorenson, Trent Goulet, Tyler Hanson, Austin Jensen, Isaac Eskeli and Adreien Verbout) moved to the front of the risers and performed "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" The Jr. High Choir finished with "Anything You Can Do."
The Senior High Choir performed five numbers, starting with "What is this Feeling" with Sydney Melby and Jayden Fore having parts. "Down From the Lonely Mountain, from the movie The Hobbit was next, followed by a Korean Folk song, "Doraji" with performances by Deidra Walton, Tera Qualley, Natalie Aakhus and Kelsie Sirjord. Kjersten Walton, Miranda Magnell and Holly Vettleson performed "You Are My Music" and the Senior Choir finished with "Cry Me a River" with soloists Ric Ven Auman and Natalie Aakhus.
The combined choirs performed "Best Day of My Life."
During the switch from Choir to Band, a piano solo "Bossa Pipa" was performed by Holly Vettleson.
The Junior High Band started their performances with "Swing Low, Sweet Clarinets." A flute solo by Lacey Pendelton of "Colors of the Wind" and Aries Qualley performed a tuba solo called "Big Boy." The final Jr. High Band song was a familiar tune, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
The Senior High Band did a great job on "Hogan's Heroes March." Hannah Kolstoe performed a clarinet solo of "Pachelbel's Cannon" and Cody Gagner performed a saxophone solo called "Culligan Man." The final song performed by the Sr. High Band was Symphony #9.
The two bands finished the evening with music from the "Pirates of the Carribean" and a treat for the audience was the first playing of the newly created "Rebel Fight Song." Words yet to be written.
It was a very well performed night of music.
