Jim and Marilyn Sundquist are Clearwater County’s honored couple

Jim and Marilyn Sundquist from Gonvick were selected to be honored at the 79th Annual Red River Valley Development Association (RRVDA) Honor Banquet at the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  The RRVDA is funded through an annual allocation from the county boards of commissioners in northwest Minnesota.  Allen Paulson from Shevlin represents Clearwater County on the board of directors.
The following introduction was used during the program: Jim and Marilyn Sundquist from Gonvick are Clearwater County’s honored couple this year.  The Sundquist family includes their son, Nicolas and their daughter Sheila who is married to Benjamin Nelson and three grandsons, Reid, Sage and Lee Nelson.
Jim is a past council member and current President of the United Lutheran Church of Gonvick.  Marilyn serves as Secretary of the church.  James is an Army Veteran and member of the Gonvick American Legion Post #304.  Jim was a state highway worker for 18 years, retiring from MNDOT in July, 2015.
The Sundquists are enrolled in the Adult Farm Management Program at Northland Community and Technical College.  Marilyn is a graduate of Northland Community and Technical College where she earned an RN Degree in 1999.  She worked for 13 years on the Red Lake Indian Reservation and currently works for Essentia Health in Fosston as Director of Senior Services.  Marilyn also serves on the Clearwater County Housing Authority.
The Sunquists were married in 1977 and purchased the family farm from Jim’s parents. They raised their children on the dairy farm where they milked cows for 17 years.  Upon selling the dairy herd, they developed a cow/calf operation where they raise all of their own hay.  In addition, the Sundquists raised Morgan horses and sold to customers throughout the United States.  They continue to enjoy their horses and love to go on camping and trail riding adventures with friends.
The Sundquists are pleased to still live on the family farm that allows their grandsons to visit and learn life values by hunting, fishing, driving ATVs and caring for the livestock.
The Sundquists were not with them at the banquet as Jim surprised Marilyn with a trip to a warmer climate that happened to be over the same weekend.
Congratulations to Jim and Marilyn.
