RLCC hosts Fall Student Council Summit

The Red Lake County Central Student Senate hosted the North West Division Student Council Fall Summit November 16th in Oklee. Sixteen schools attended with approximately 350 students in attendance.
The day started off with an icebreaker game where each student got a letter of the alphabet. The students had to find other students to spell out a word. Then the students broke out into different groups to learn about different ways they could fundraise for the state service project for the Make a Wish Foundation.
After the students learned about the State Service Project they broke off into different groups for Hot Topics. The topics were controversial topics such as Collin Kaepernick refusing to stand during the National Anthem, installing gender neutral bathrooms in schools, and the protest of pipeline construction in western North Dakota.
Getting the audience involved and being the main speaker for the day was Doug Erickson, Coordinator of Students Activities for the Minnesota Association of Student Councils. Erickson talked about getting involved in your school and taking part in the state service project. Brooke Chesley, State President for Student Council, talked about the fundraiser and also about the State Student Council in Rochester MN.
Overall the day ran really well. The students seem to enjoy themselves.
RLCC will also be hosting the Spring Summit in March. RLCC was the site for these summits because senior Taylor Bushelle is the President of the Northwest Division of Student Council. RLCC advisor Mr. Randy Huie is the also District Advisor for the Northwest Division.
