MSHSL Honors RLCC Students with Spotlight on Scholarship Certificates

The Minnesota State High School League recently awarded 33 Spotlight on Scholarship certificates to Red Lake County Central High School students for their academic achievements in the classroom. Sponsored by the League for 20 years, the Spotlight on Scholarship Program began in 1995 to recognize students who participate in League-sponsored activities and who have a “B” or better grade average. More than 600,000 students have been honored so far, and today the Spotlight on Scholarship Program is considered the fastest-growing recognition program in the League sponsors.
“The Spotlight on Scholarship Program an opportunity for students who have excelled to step into the well-deserved spotlight,” said RLCC Principal Randy Pederson. “These students have proven that they can be successful both in and out of the classroom.”
Students receiving the Spotlight on Scholarship certificates for Spring 2016 Softball were Michelle Sundquist, Brandie Jensen, Tera Qualley, Makay Berns (manager), Taylor Bushelle, Mary Auman, Lacey Pendelton, Jayden Fore, and Sydnie Gunderson. Receiving Spotlight on Scholarship certificates for Spring 2016 Baseball were Talon Porter, Matthew Vettleson, and Dawson Rystad. Spotlight on Scholarships for Spring 2016 Speech were awarded to Shelby Gunderson, Natalie Aakhus, Jade Person, Sydney Melby, Kara Longtin, Jayden Fore, Zoe Russillo, Abby Walton, Jayden Iverson, and Lillyan Guillemette. Spring 2016 Trap Team recipients of the Spotlight on Scholarship were Ethan Vettleson, Seth Paradis, Kyle Gagner, and Adam Cater. The Spring 2016 Track team members who received the Spotlight on Scholarship awards were Devin Lambert, Ashley Longtin, Nicholas Pahlen, Connor Lambert, and Julia Bernstein.
In addition to honoring students for their individual efforts, the Spotlight on Scholarship Program provides banners to League member schools whose varsity fine arts and athletic teams collectively achieve a 3.0 or better grade-point average. More than 200 schools have banners hanging in their school.
