Tammie Ehlers going for her second million

Tammie (Philips) Ehlers is now a million miler. She has logged in over a million miles driving the rural mail routes out of Leonard and Clearbrook. She recently received a plaque for her milestone from the United States Postal Service. She is working on her next million as she now has over 15,000 miles under her belt.

1982 was the year she started as a substitute for five years before going full-time. She had been an Officer In Charge (OIC) in Gonvick and Lengby.

She got the substitute job as her husband Fred had been asked to take over for the regular driver when needed. He wanted to be a farmer and she thought why not and she took the position.

The most difficult time for driving the route is in the winter after a rain. She has always had a 4-wheel drive vehicle for her job. She has used eleven different cars on her million miles. She had two Ford Rangers that both have most of the miles adding up to 700,000 on the odometers. She now drives a Ford Explorer.

If there is something for everyone on her route she would have to make 279 stops over the 138.9 miles that she covers each day.

Despite working everyday Tammie still has time for all her hobbies She works on the farm, sews, goes 4-wheeling, enjoys her horse and makes candy. The things that she enjoys the most is having to see her grandchildren, Kale, Aiden and Zoey. Fred and Tammie have two children Karla who lives south of Bagley and Paul who lives south of Clearbrook with their families, so they are close to them. She makes time to spend with her grandpa Dale Miller.

April 22, 2018 is the date when she plans to retire from driving the mail route.

She already has decided that she will have to do something whether it is be a PARA at the school or doing more with her candy business that she now sells at various functions. One of her trade mark candies is her toffee.

If you see her on the road in her Ford Exployer make way as she will be driving the route until 2018.
