Waliser Tops 1,000 Points

Red Lake County’s basketball player Austin Waliser scored his 1,000th point February 2, 2016 in Karlstad when the RLC Rebels played the Northern Freeze. The basketball season is not over and Waliser will be adding to his total career points in the upcoming games. He currently has 1,005 points. His teammate Drake Engelstad also has reached 1,610 points.
Waliser is the 13th player to reach over 1,000 points in boys’ basketball. The 1,000 Point Club (Career Points) includes Roger Quist 1958 – 1,447; Jim Bronken 1973 – 1,160; Jon Lindquist 1983 – 1,030; Richard Hendrickson 1986 – 1,110; Shane Freyholtz 1988 – 1,081; Jeff Bachand 1991 – 1,103; Mark Lorenson 1998 – 1,531; Scott Herberg 2011 – 1,017; Kevin Longtin 2011 – 1,077; Jeff Weiss scored 1,460 when he played as a Rebel his senior year; and now Engelstad and Waliser. The only one to achieve the 2,000 Point Club (Career Points) was Aaron Chaput 1996 – 2,187.
Eleven girls have reached more than 1,000 points in girls’ basketball. The 1,000 Point Club (Career Points) includes Diane Fisher 1980 – 1,353; Jody Pahlen 1985 – 1,796; Sara Radniecki 1991 – 1,084; Angie Chervestad 1998 – 1,369; Michelle Halvorson 2003 – 1,029; Courtney Halvorson 2007 – 1,239; Brittany Gustafson 2007 – 1,472; Kayla Pelletier 2009 – 1,022; Faith Kruchowski 2009 – 1,700; and Brianna Spong 2011 – 1,075. The only girl to achieve the 2,000 Point Club (Career Points) was Michaela Casavan 2012 – 2,388.
Waliser is the son of Jason and Amy Waliser and Shane and Amanda Vettleson. He is a senior at RLCC in Oklee. Congratulations to Austin on joining the 1,000 Point Club!
