John DeVries is top speller
Clearbrook-Gonvick held their 2016 District Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 28 at 9:30 am. Eight spellers were selected to compete from fifth though eighth grades.
John DeVries, a 6th grader, was the champioin and will be going on to compete at the Regional Spelling Bee that will be held on Wednesday, February 10. The event will be held at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls.
Savanna Rankin, an 8th grader took second place and Tristin Skinaway, an 8th grader took third place. The winning word was "lactose" which John spelled after he spelled "moxie" to be named the winner. The spelling bee increases vocabulary and improves spelling with participants.
