Gonvick Lions eye glass project headed to Haiti

The Gonvick Lions Club collects used eye glasses and lenses in a box in the Leader-Record (Richards Publishing) office in Gonvick. Many people have left their old glasses and lenses there. The large box and many other crates with ophthalmic instruments and supplies is going to Haiti this week with Lance Bergstrom, M.D.

Lance Bergstrom, M.D., is a Fargo native. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, at the UND School of Medicine and Fellow of the America College of Surgeons.

Since 1992, Dr. Bergstrom has successfully performed over 10,000 eye surgeries. He has appontments in Ada, Detroit Lakes and Mahnomen. His main office is located in Fargo, North Dakota but he does surgical procedures at Northern Plains Surgery Center.

Dr. Bergstrom has provided support in the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya where they trained doctors from Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Somalia and Sudan.
