Eagle Scratches from 2015

January – Grygla/Gatzke Food Shelf operates under new hours being open one Saturday a month from 8-10:30am. Saphire Brown puts on fundraiser concert to support her EP release. Daniel Polansky travels with the NDSU Bison Football team to Frisco, Texas where they are named the NCAA Division I FCS National Champions for the fourth consecutive year. 5th Annual Back Breakers Vintage Snowmobile Show and Ride is held. Grygla City Council gains two new members – Lindsay Oslund and Gavin Nordby replace Kelly Klein and Steve Anderson. Grygla Library goes to single day operation. Grygla native, Jeremy Verbout, was featured in Reader’s Digest cover story, “Dear America: Our troops tell all.” Iron Chargers Robotics team gets surprise invite to World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Grygla Cup was held at the Brian W. Olson Memorial Arena with the Grygla Flames hockey team taking first place. Goodridge Snofest crowns King Jordan Nelson and Queen Hannah Dietsch.

February – Mya Anderson, Grygla Sixth Grader, rings in the New Year at the Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida, going with her ‘Just for Kix’ dance team. Rachel Rychlock opens Great North Acupuncture business with office space in TRF and Grygla. Grygla Alumni Basketball Tournament was held with first place going to the 2007-2008 team. Local students attend the Triple A Awards Banquet in Mahnoment; attending were Samantha Sjulestad, Leah Schulz and Chris Kiesow. Goodridge Elementary Second Grade Teacher, Lois Anderson, is named Teacher of the Year. The Zamboni gets a makeover with a new paint job and decals sponsored by local businesses. Lon Englund wins $1000 at Grygla/Gatzke Jaycee’s Bar Bingo.

March – Grygla Fire & Rescue serve annual Firemen’s Supper. Two bull elk found dead near Grygla. Grygla Garden Club holds its first meeting. Fire crews and DNR forestry respond to grass fire near Grygla. Changing of the Guard at American State Agency; Tera Nordby replaces Holly Rychlock. Grygla School holds Spring Fling crowning King Dylan Morey and Queen Jaci Hasbrouck. City of Grygla offers new moving incentive to renters or buyers. Red Cross of Fargo partnered with Grygla Fire & Rescue for a Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in Grygla, visiting 88 homes and installing 130 fire alarms. Grygla Merchants hold annual appreciation breakfast. Many Grygla kids participate in an all-day hockey tournament organized by the Olson family.

April – Bernie Picolet was recognized for 50 years of dedicated membership to the American Legion. Grygla Lion’s gear up for annual smelt fry. Fourtown/Grygla Sportsman’s Club holds ATV Safety Training. Grygla Drama Department performs “I Dream of Genie”. Grygla Eagle chosen to attend Editor’s & Publisher’s Leadership Program. Grygla/Goodridge/Gatzke athletes are recogized at sport’s banquet. Palsburg Wildfire breaks out and burns over 4500 acres in the Beltrami Island State Forest. Goodridge Drama Department performs “Jack and the Frankenbean Stalk”. The Grygla Eagle gets a new front page design. Grygla High School holds prom.

May – Trystan Jelle gets hired as the Grygla Eagle Summer Intern. Goodridge High School holds prom. Salo Signs are popping up all around us; the custom sign company is based out of Goodridge. Good-ridge/Grygla students take sixth grade class trips to Minneapolis. Congratulations to the 2015 high school graduates. Machinewell, Inc. presented with Safety Award; the company also stands out by offering opportunities within its community. Garden Valley awards technology grants; Grygla and Goodridge schools are among recipients. 

June – Fourtown area gets hit with break-ins and cemetery vandalism. Community Style acupuncture is made available in Grygla. Chix from the Stix participate in Marshall County Relay for Life. Tank bursts by Ag Department in Grygla causing a few thousand dollars worth of damage. In honor of dairy month, the Grygla Eagle spends the day at Good-Vue Ayr Dairy Farms. Chargers summer baseball program is underway. “To a land where joys will never end, I’ll fly away…” Grygla suffers a huge loss when Jim and Gloria Holte, bound for Alaska, passed away as a result of an airplane crash.
