Grand Champion Senior Showman at Clearwater County Fair
We had eight 4-H youth participate in this year's Clearwater County 4-H Premier Showmanship Event. This event has been sponsored for many years by the Fawver Family.
Exhibitors participating in Premier Showmanship are typically the Grand Champion Senior Showman in their livestock species. In some cases, an alternate showman may also be eligible to participate.
Each exhibitor is an expert in their own livestock species, but they may have little or no experience showing other types of livestock. Premier Showmanship gives these 4-H members a unique opportunity to step outside their area of expertise and experience showing the other livestock species represented at the County Fair.
As exhibitors show each species, they are evaluated by the judges on several skills, including:
- Grooming and attitude
- How they lead and handle the animal
- How they set up the animal for examination
- How well they showcase the specific strengths of each animal
- Their knowledge of the species
Each judge asked the exhibitor five questions to test their livestock knowledge. Exhibitors receive scores based on their answers as well as their showmanship skills.
4-H members may participate in Premier Showmanship as many times as they qualify, until they have been named Premier Showmanship Champion twice.
Premier Showmanship is a unique opportunity for our 4-H members to challenge themselves, learn from one another, and experience new livestock species. It truly embodies the 4-H motto to “Make the Best Better.”
Participating this year were Kaden Bowman Grand Champion Senior Sheep Showman, Eric Larson Grand Champion Senior Beef Showman, Bryce Haugen Grand Champion Senior Swine Showman, Lexi Cloose Grand Champion Senior Dairy Cattle Showman, Corryn Lundberg Grand Champion Senior Poultry Showman, Macie Farr Grand Champion Senior Meat Goat Showman, Kaylynn Waldvogel Grand Champion Senior Dairy Goat Showman, and Hailey Kortan Grand Champion Senior Horse Showmanship winner. All the youth did an amazing job. After all the points were calculated this year Premier Showmanship Winner was Kaden Bowman. Congratulations Kaden!
