Gonvick City Council August 6
The Gonvick City Council met in regular session on Thursday, August 6. The minutes of the July 9 meeting were approved.
Austin Kindem and Brandon Oien were the visitors to request use of the rodeo grounds so that they could have a kid’s rodeo. That would include mutton busting, greased pig contest, a ribbon catch from a calf are some the ideas that they would like to have. Their plans were not complete, and they thought that Friday night before the Pumpkin Day would be a good fit. More information will be coming from them.
Police Report from Ryan Solee included 10 records. They were 911 Hang Up 1; Fire 1; Medical 2; Threats 1; Traffic Stop 1; Welfare Check 3; Worthless Check 1. The Police Department budget is on schedule. The rodeo events went great.
Cody Rude, Fire Chief gave his report. They have 3 medical calls, 1 grass fire and 1 car accident. The department had two regular meetings, one training night and two work nights. Five firemen attended the helicopter landing zone training held by Sanford Air Med in Bagley. The International truck was sold for $4,000 and Enbridge donated a pickup to the Gonvick Fire Department. It is a ¾ ton Chevy and they will be outfitting it with a new skid unit from Great Plains Fire and having a siren, light bar and radio installed by Stones Radio in Grand Forks. At the last firemen’s meeting they added a new fireman with Jayce Bergerson on a one-year probation period which brings the roster to 21.
Maintenance with Dan Johnson. He and City Clerk Stacy Halvorson wrote a grant to the Minnesota Department of Health after they received quotes for a part to replace the control at the water treatment plant. Mike Stodtman with Rural Water advised them to go ahead with the plan. The total for the control was $9,979.00. Also a reminder again that flushable wipes do not break down. Feminine products, plastics, or kitty litter down the drain also clogs pipes. Please don’t flush them down.
The Kage Snowplow Blade with Lock Kit was approved for a total of $19,214.07. Insurance covered most of the amount with about $16,000.
The fire alarm went off and council members Adam Burman, Maintenances person Dan Johnson and Fire Chief Cody Rude left the meeting for the call.
The remaining members continued the meeting.
There was a discussion on the Old City Hall. The city does not own it and the owner wants to get rid of it. Mayor Sue Sims and City Clerk Stacy Halvorson have been going through grants through DEED and assistance from HRDC but they have not been successful. Since the city can’t raise funds to take care of the demolition on their own they passed a resolution to open an Old City Hall Project fund to start requesting nonprofit organizations or private individuals to consider fundraising or to donate to the project.
The resolution made by the council was to open an investment account naming it the “Old City Hall Project” and to transfer the remaining $2,100 from Office Equipment fund and close that inactive account. Also, money from the sale of Vandy’s Lot to Reegan Hetland for $5,100 to be deposited into the Hall Fund.
The budget and wage negotiations will be discussed at next month’s meeting.
Filing for the City offices to be voted on in November include Sue Sims for Mayor and Dan Sundquist, Shane Olson and Adam Burman for the two council seats.
The Journal Entries were approved along with expenditures for the month. They included General $28,477.89; Water and Sewer $4,893.39, Fire $3,445.42 for a total of $37,116.68.
