A Healthy Start Begins with Support

Breastfeeding provides important health benefits for both babies and parents.  Human milk contains nutrients and antibodies babies need to support healthy growth, strengthen their immune systems, and reduce the risk of certain illnesses.  For breastfeeding parents, it may promote postpartum recovery and is associated with long-term health benefits.

While breastfeeding is a natural process, it is also a learned skill.  Many families experience challenges such as difficulties with latching, concerns about milk supply and returning to work, or balancing feeding with other responsibilities.  Access to support during these times can make a difference. 

Local public health offers resources and support to help families meet their infant feeding goals.  One of the programs available is the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.  WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to additional healthcare and community services.  Whether you are expecting your first child or adding to your family, WIC staff can answer questions and connect you with the support you need.  In addition to WIC, families are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider or pediatrician if they have concerns about breastfeeding. 

Every family's feeding journey is unique.   Whether you breastfeed for a few days, a few months, or longer, seeking support early can help address challenges and build confidence.  We want parents to feel empowered to ask questions and use the resources available in their community.
