Quilt of Valor Presented

Quilt of Valor Presented

Pictured is Linda Gulbranson, Headwaters Quilt Guild member and Quilt of Valor Foundation, who awarded Edward Knaeble his Quilt of Valor. Also pictured is Travis Larson, a member of the American Legion Irvin Blix Post 16 of Bagley, who had nominated Ed to be awarded his QOV. This was the first Coast Guard member to receive a QOV in Clearwater County.

Ed Knaeble was raised in Minneapolis graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1957. Ed enlisted in the Coast Guard later in 1957 receiving his training at Cape May New Jersey. After his training he was assigned to New London, Connecticut working in the office for damage control. He was honorably discharged as a Fireman.

Ed was a self-employed accountant in the twin cities area. After his retirement in 1998 he and his wife, the former Carol Katzenmeyer, moved to the Bagley area to be close to her family and her roots. Together they raised four children and sadly a son and daughter have preceded them in death.

Ed enjoyed the great outdoors and living in the north country. This was quite evident with all the deer mounts, fish and hides displayed in his home where the awarding took place. Due to declining health, he is limited to activities he can engage in today.

We thank Edward for his service to our country.
