Clearbrook-Gonvick School board meeting July 20, 2026
The Clearbrook-Gonvick School board met in regular session on Monday July 20, 2026. The regular minutes of the previous meeting of June15 were approved.

Superintendent Grow
Ryan Grow has open positions for K - 12 music teacher, activities Director, part-time cook and some coaches. Three school board members are up for election this fall. They include Corey Petterson, Randall Bodensteiner and Ryan Solee. The last day to apply is July 28, 2026. Filing fee is $2.00. There is an important ballot that taxpayers will vote on in November. It has to do with language for the distribution of money from the state. This will change the language that was made in 1858. It will not increase any taxes on taxpayers. There is 675 million that will be allocated to state school districts once that is done. If you don’t vote at all it will be a NO vote. It will be important for this to change for districts. They have worked on the 26-27 preliminary budget. Paula, Virgil, Justin and Ryan attended a meeting in Erskine on Long-term facility maintenance. The roof replacement project has a hold on it until mid-August. The company is finishing up another project which will also push the timeline for Thief River Falls glass to get the front entrance done. They expect to be completed by the end of September. The new addition was not a part of the roof replacement. The conference room will have new carpet put in. The walk-in-cooler is being looked at before school starts.
Consent Calendar was approved. Total Non-Payroll was $693,754.92 and Payroll $217,554.10 for a total of $911,309.02. A review of the Unemployment report from last year had $72,000 paid out to para educators that are on staff and unemployment for the summer. $20,000 was paid out for staff people for various reasons. Total reported donations received from various organizations and business places for the month of July was 0.

The Board accepted the resignation of Philip Johnson as Custodian and would hire him back if he wanted; the resignation of Jason Dixon as Head Baseball coach after 4 years on the job and the resignation of Tyler Gunn as Technology Specialist. He was very helpful during the cyber incident. He has accepted a Project Manager position for a company in the Twin Cities.
The board hired Daniel TeHennepe as Junior High Football Coach for the coming season for $2,000. They hired Kellen Nelson as Custodian with one year experience at Step 2 for $17.63 as hour.
The Extra-Curricular Coaches and Advisors were approved with: Football- Casey Kroulik Head Coach; Jon Gerlofs and Tate Maesse as Asst. Coaches; Paul Gustafson and D.J. TeHennepe as Junior High Coaches. Volleyball – Lindsey Samson as Head Coach; Sarah Goudge and Jamie Hamnes as Asst. The board approved the Staff Handbook with revisions that included: the emergency action plan, updates for class advisors, harassment policy in the staff handbook and coaches to the end of duties.
They accepted the milk bids from Prairie Farms which had the lowest cost of the two that were received. They will only deliver once a week. A question was asked if extra coolers were needed for the product and if there would be a cost. That would be checked.
The Cafeteria Prices for the next school year lunch program was approved with free to students and amounts for adults were $3.00 for breakfast and $5.50 for lunch.
The board adopted the Resolution Approving the Long Term Facilities Maintenance Plan. They have to make a 10-year plan as to what might be needed or to be done. There is some sidewalks that need replacement and work would have to be done on the parking lot. A pilot program on classroom lighting. They will be putting in LED lights in a couple of classes this year. They will be needing emergency lighting and signs. Roof replacement was also in the plan along with a number of revenue projections.
The board discussed the Memorandum of Understanding between MSEA and ISD #2311. The school year starts before Labor Day and there are some staff members that would be going to the State Fair. For those staff that wish to go would have to submit documentation and have a request for that time off that would not be paid by the district. The fair runs from August 27 to September 7. First Day of Fall Sports Practice is August 17. New student registration is August 18. All staff In-Service August 24 and 25. The first day of School for K-12 is September 1 going to the 2 and 3 and closed on September 4 and 7th for Labor Day.
The board discussed the Memorandum of Understanding between EdMN, Clearbrook-Gonvick and ISD #2311 concerning an overnight trip to Deep Portage. The staff that went as supervisors for the trip and that payment had not been negotiated. More information would be needed.
The next regular meeting was set for August 17 at 7:00 p.m. and a Future Work Session for July 19 at 5:00 p.m.
