David A. Thorson

David A. Thorson, 84, of Fertile, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota.

David Allen, the son of Forrest and Evangeline (Kronschnabel) Thorson, was born on November 21, 1941, in Crookston, MN. He grew up on the family farm near Fertile and graduated from Fertile High School in 1959. Following graduation, David proudly served his country in the United States Army, with much of his service spent in Germany and Korea. He later re-enlisted in the Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Captain after 30 years of dedicated military service. On August 3, 1963, David married the love of his life, Jeannie Taallerud. Together they made their home in Fertile and were blessed with two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, while eagerly awaiting the arrival of a third great-grandchild. David dedicated his professional life to helping others as a Chemical Dependency Counselor with Norman County, Inter-County Community Council, and the Glenmore Foundation. He found great purpose in supporting those on their journey to recovery.

A quiet man, David expressed his love through his steady presence. He was a faithful member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he lived out his Christian faith with quiet humility. Whether in church, at home, or in the stands, he faithfully showed up for those he loved. He never missed his daughters' and later his grandchildren's activities and sporting events, offering unwavering support from the sidelines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and family trips, making especially fond memories fishing on Echo Lake in Canada. In his free time, he liked taking drives to look for deer, searching for hidden treasures with his metal detector, and adding to his coin collection. David will be remembered for his quiet strength, devoted service to his country, his willingness to help and encourage others, and the love he shared with his wife of 62 years and their family.

David is survived by his wife, Jeannie of Fertile; daughters, Lisa (Jan) Christianson of Fertile, and Lori (Mike) Theis of Fosston, MN; five grandchildren: Joely (Derrick) Gustafson, Jaden (Lucas) Solie, Cort (Clara) Christianson, Callie Theis, and Zach Theis; two great-grandchildren, Colt and Della; two brothers, Tom Thorson of Philadelphia, PA, and Jim (Kim) Thorson of Brooklyn Park, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Dan, Ron, and infant Michael; and sister-in-law: Gayle.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 20, 2026, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.   Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment with full military honors will take place at Concordia South Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
