Zavoral family tradition

Four years ago the Zavoral family adopted a 2-mile stretch of highway in the Thorhult area. Every year since, 3 generations of Zavorals come and spend the afternoon picking up trash. The family gathered last weekend for the annual event, which is scheduled every October to honor Bob “RJ” Zavoral, who would have turned 100 years old October 18th.
Carrie Zavoral says, “Bob taught his family to work hard and give back so to honor him, this is what we do every year during his birthday month!” Last year Bob’s wife, Lois, even helped clean the ditch at age 92!
The family cleans the ditch located at mile marker 58 and 59; one mile is in the Red Lake Reservation and the other one just outside of it. Along with the Zavorals, the Wikerts and Roen’s also have Adopt-A-Highways in the Thorhult area.
