Year in Review continued

December 6, 2017

Once again, Plummer is graced with the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train stopping on December 12th.

Humbleberry Farms is located just east of Brooks on Highway 92. It is a little hidden treasure that some are beginning to realize is there with unique products, organic and homegrown items.

RLCC High School welcomes Ginny Stoneouse as a para.

River Watch is an extracurricular activity where high school students study and sample rivers in the local area, as well as create projects that benefit the community.

It is overcast this morning, but the temperature is in the 30's so it is pleasant outside. There is very little wind so maybe it will be a day to remember since it is already the 3rd of December.

Robotics is a class where students learn how robotic engineering changes the world, they build robots for competitions, and they take notes to design these robots. This is the second year that the class has been available at Red Lake County Central High School. 

Snow covers the ground now, so everyone can get into the Christmas mindset. We have a bit of fresh snow from overnight so now it is blowing around. Seems that there is no end of the blowing. Now we have about 3 inches on the level if you can find a level. 

Red Lake County Rebels boys’ basketball team was one of eight teams playing in a three day tournament at Northland Community Technical College in Thief River Falls. Due to weather the games were rescheduled for December 5, 7, and 9.

During the Holiday Train's stop in Plummer, Inter-County Community Council held a freewill donation light lunch of hot dogs and chips at the Plummer Hall and collected $1,145 serving over 400 people. Together as a community they collected 696 pounds of food that is shared between the Red Lake Falls food shelf and the Inter-County Community Council food shelf. None of this would be possible with out the wonderful support of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train.

The Red Lake County Central Theater will be starting to practice for the One Act play. This year they will be performing “Freaked.

The weather has been okay for this time of year but the ice is not the friend of any of us. Walking around on eggshells is not my way of rolling, but it seems that most of us are doing just that.

Many photos of the children in the area were in the paper with three Santa Days held the past few weeks.

Ignite Afterschool, Minnesota’s statewide network of afterschool programs, honored Red Lake County 4-H Program Coordinator Sharon Weiss with the Minnesota Afterschool Champion Award. This award recognizes individuals whose practices enhance the Red Lake County 4-H Honored for Afterschool Programming quality of and access to afterschool programs for all youth.

Red Lake County Central girls’ basketball played against Fosston Greyhounds on Monday, December 18 in Oklee. After the first half of the game, Mustangs led 24-17. RLCC won the game 44-37.

The RLCC Mustang wrestling team took on Grafton in the triangular and lost to the Spoilers 40 to 18. Gunnar Sundeen was pinned in 1:32 by Chance Burns at 106 pounds. In the 120 pound weight, Damon Ferguson was pinned by Austin Thompson in 42 seconds. Wrestling at 126 pounds, Paul DeHate pinned Tyler Mavel in 3:11. Oscar Duden was pinned by Alex Ibanez in 1:27 at 132 pounds. At the weight of 170 pounds, Tristyn Ferguson pinned Brian Sisk in 2:52.
