Year in Review....

June 20: Mrs. Judy Schue currently works in the Red Lake County Central High School library and with the online students. She plans on retiring after the 2017-2018 school year. She has done so much for the school and will be missed.

The Red Lake County Fair is coming to Oklee, June 22-23-24. The Red Lake County Fair will kick off fair week with an opening ceremony on Friday, June 22, at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Red Lake County Central School. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the public is welcome to enter their projects in the Open Class entry.

The Fair is looking forward to many new exhibitors for the Open Class. This is where you can shine with your project or gardening skills can be entered and win premiums.

This winter there were some changes at Security State Bank with two new tellers. Tracy Lee who is married to Jack Lee Jr. They have two children, Jack Lee III and Brandon Lee and  Robyn Morinville who is married to Chris Morinville, they have five children.

June 27: Open class registration was held in the front of the school. Taking entries in were Deb Amiot, Maryanne Lambert, and Barb Swenson.

Krista Bernstein’s dance class was part of the entertainment for the RLC Fair Senior Citizen Program. 

Wojo’s Rodeo opening on Friday night where they put on quite a good show.

Members of the American Legion saluted the flags before beginning the ceremonial flag burning at the Oklee Area Veteran’s Park where they had held a potluck earlier for the public on June 14th, Flag Day.

July 4: Winners of the RLC Fair 5K; Connie Wavra, Christine Weber, Katelyn Wagner, Brock Tvedt, and Travis Larson.

Sheriff Bernstein came to the Commissioners meeting with a resolution for the damage declaration at Huot washout on road #104.

The Class of 62 had an impromptu gathering at the Oklee Café on Saturday, June 23rd. Attending were Bob Solheim, Richard Mathson (FL), Micheal Whalen, Ann Marie (Fournier) Hammer, Howard Hanson, Edwin Olson, Al Berget (CA), Diane (Tasa) Solheim, Karen (Chervestad) Mathson, Helga (Kvasager) Nissen. All the rest live in Minnesota. 

This last Thursday night was a big rainfall and wind during the night. I think everyone in Oklee had some leaves and branches down from a strong wind and rain.

Plummer held a 4th of July celebration and Leif Hofstad was driving a John Deere Model “110” built in 1965. It is a 7 hp tractor with a variable speed drive for high speed mowing and low end tilling. It is owned by Glenn Hofstad; Inga Linder was the Grand Marshall for the Plummer Fourth of July Parade. She is 102 years old; Jerry Skjerven driving one of many unique cars in the Plummer Parade on the 4th of July. Plummer’s Fire and Rescue attended the parade on the Fourth of July, they are always a hit with the kids when they honk their horns and let off their sirens.

Twenty eight members from the original 44 members (11 are deceased) of the Oklee High School class of 1958 gathered on June 30 at the Oklee Cafe for their 60th reunion. An evening of catching up, sharing a meal at the Oklee Cafe, and lots of storytelling brought many smiles to those attending.

RLCC Summer Rec has combined their Bantams softball team with Clearbrook/Gonvick this year. On July 2 they played in a tournament at Fertile and got 1st place.

Twenty one classmates from the 45 graduates of Oklee High School class of 1978 recently gathered on July 7th at the Lakeview Resort in Mentor for their 40th class reunion. The ‘Class of 78’ spent a fun evening catching up on each others lives since their last reunion 20 years ago and enjoyed a wonderful buffet meal at Lakeview. Classmates from a distance traveled from Texas, Colorado, North Dakota, Bemidji, Brainerd, Warroad, and the Twin Cities to attend the event. The class is already looking forward to their 50th reunion!
