September 8, 2021
County roads (CSAH 6) for Red Lake and Polk are getting resurfacer this summer and they started at Hwy 92 moving north and are now moving west with their equipment. The first unit in the train of vehicles is the pre-heat unit. The second unit is the heating and recycling unit which has a spray bar to apply rejuvenator, scarifying teeth and auger to distribute and a screed to level the mixture.
Some of the Market Day winners were: Brother and sister team, Brett and Brooklynn Anderson were the egg toss champions in the kids division; Michelle Skjerven and her daughter, Jordyn, won the egg toss for the adult/student pairing; Dana Melby and Emma Hendrickson won the one-handed egg toss.
Gelene Lundeen, local Norwex dealer had her booth set up for Market Day.
Julia Bernstein from Oklee graduated with a bachelor of science in exercise science and a certificate in coaching from Bemidji State University,

The funds that were raised at the Hero Hustle at Market Day are being donated to The Second Chance For Life Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A total of $4,318.60 was raised.
Blast To Brooks had the largest car show ever. I believe there were over 130 cars displayed in addition to the tractors and other farm equipment.
The Red Lake County Rebels suffered a loss against Polk County West Thunder on September 2nd, in Climax. The final score was 41-24.This was the first game for both teams.
Wow, what a wonderful weekend we just had. Perfect weather, temps were just right and no rain. The City of Brooks threw a great party and everyone had loads of fun.
News this morning was that Harold Cyr passed away on Sunday night. Harold will be missed and he always had a piece of history to share.

Red Lake County Rebel Cross Country team for 2021 had their second meet of the season on September 9, in Roseau.
Mustangs Volleyball The Red Lake County Central Mustangs volleyball team took on the Stephen-Argyle Central Storm Thursday September 9th in Plummer. The Mustangs lost in three sets, staying close behind especially in set one ending with a score of 25-27. The score of the second and third set were both 18-25.
Queen Candidates are Cari Bachand, Madeline Inda Valdez, Leah Peterson, Marissa Schiebe, Bailey Sherman. King Candidates are Thomas Benson, Jed Duden, Tyler Eskeli, Peyton Fish, Nolan Magnell.
We were blessed with rain again Monday night. That made 2 inches this past week. What a blessing to our plants and ground. It still is pretty dry just a few inches under the surface. It will take a while for the hard pan to soften up.
Logan & Abigail O’Neill, of Moorhead are proud parents of a baby girl born on August 31st. Her name is Layla Jean.

North Star Credit Union in Brooks held a Cash Cube event during the Blast To Brooks. People that wanted to try and win cash would take a disc and drop it in a Plinko type drop game (sample to the right) to see if they had 2, 3, 4 or 5 seconds in the Cash Cube. Prizes were given out and some reported were: $100, $25, $17 and many more. You could win up to $1000.
The Warriors of Warroad came to Plummer and gave RLC their second loss of the season September 24th dropping the Rebels 32-16.
The weather this past weekend was so beautiful. I could not think that anyone would fault it for anything. Many farmers were combining corn or soybeans and much was able to be done with fall work.

The 2021 Red Lake County Homecoming was a huge success. The events started with Coronation on Monday Sep 27, 2021. Crowning the candidates was Brock Tvedt, the 2020 Homecoming King. Homecoming 2020 Queen Kia Bachand. who was unable to attend the ceremony.
News has come in that Maureen (Munt) Bartelt, Broker and Real Estate Agent, at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Premier Properties was elected as the Vice President of the Fargo Moorhead Realtors (FMR) organization.
The weather has been great for harvesting and noticed just about all of the harvesting is done. Now the field preparation for Fall is getting done.
Bacon is the highest it’s been in 40 years. So, if it come on sale, better snap it up. Whether it’s used for BLT’s or served with eggs, it a very popular breakfast or brunch item.

Wade Westlake (Fire Chief) and members of the Plummer Fire Department educating elementary school age children about their equipment and fire prevention during Fire Prevention Week.
Oklee Municipal Building remodeling was finished. The County roads that go through Oklee were redone, the sidewalks along those County roads were redone and are now flat and meet ADA standards, and the sidewalk in front of the City building has also been replaced. 
Spotlight on Scholarship were given to many students in the following groups: Track & Field, the Speech, Boys Basketball, Soft ball, Girl Basketball, Clay Target, One Act Play and Baseball.
Fall is here and the temperatures are lowering now. There was a big snowstorm in Utah, enough to cancel a marathon in the mountains. It took over two hours to evacuate the runners from the route they took. Some had hypothermia and were hospitalized after the fact.

Courtney Eskeli is excited to be at RLCC as a paraprofessional. Mrs. Eskeli’s job includes hands-on work with students, primarily on a one-to-one basis. Her favorite class in high school was science because she loved hands-on experiences. 
The weather has been so nice up till now, but we did have a couple of frosty nights. The birds left so early this year, the feeder almost full rather than almost empty.
