Year In Review...

June 9, 2021

The sun shone, the temperature was warm and the wind was quiet—a perfect day for a Memorial Day program outside. Plummer Post 623 Commander Jerome Bakke was master of ceremonies for the Plummer Memorial Day program held in the Russell Pahlen Park in Plummer.

Norman Nelson was presented a quilt by the TRF Quilters Guild in honor of his service to the county. Also Commander Rick Dulka presented Ron Hegge with a Certificate of Continuous Membership and 50 years service to the Oklee American Legion Post 159.

Track & Field News: In the High Jump, Sophomore, Gerald Melin, will advance as Subsection Champion with a jump of 5’11”. Seventh-grader, Emma Hendrickson will advance in the 1600-Meter. Other Rebel Track and Field Team Members Advance to Sections were:  Hollie Knott, Brody Moen, Marissa Schiebe, Carson Lambert, Kiara Sauve,  and Savanna Nelson. 

Oklee Project: Part of the sidewalks from the RLCC School corner to TJ Tavern were being poured and screed on Monday. Post office access is definitely from the back door this week.

We can say no rain on my plain these days. We had a couple of showers which were not dust busters and didn’t even leave a little bit of water in the rain gauge. Others around us have gotten some rain but not a drought buster either. 

June 16. 2021

A storm hit the area and a few families got hit with high winds which damaged properties on June 9th.

RLCC Senior Student Senate along with their advisor, Mr. Randy Huie took on the responsibility of lowering the flags at the Oklee Area Veterans’ Memorial when a decree was issued by the President of the United States. The students were: Tristyn Ferguson, Janae Olson, Karena Melby, Mr Huie, Emily Kolstoe, Kia Bachand, Adriel Bakken.

We need rain. A long soaker would do the trick. Enough said. I think even the farmers agree with me.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s second child, a girl was born Friday, June 4th. She is named Lilibet Diana. Queen Elizabeth’s nickname was Lilibet as a child. Diana was Prince Harry’s mom’s name. They have a two-year old boy named Archie.

American Legion Post 159 held a Flag Day ceremony at Oklee Area Veterans Park on June 14th. 

A scaled down RLC Fair started on Friday and the Looney Lutheran's was the show to see. Other things that were popular were the Baja Races. The 4-H displays and Open Class were open to the public during this Covid summer.

 Teresa Benson was honored for her 20 years of service as the manager of the Oklee Cafe. Cake and coffee was served to anyone who attended.

There was a parade in Oklee June 16th for Gerald Melin who was heading to the State Track Meet.

We got a very nice rain on Sunday. It was very much needed and from what I understand we could have enjoyed more nice rain for a few days, but it is what it is. Thankfully we got some much needed rain.

The RLCC Cadets opened their season at RLF this year and came away with 2 victories, winning the first game 8 - 5, and the 2nd game 13 - 11.

The Summer Rec Book Club made homemade lemonade while discussing the book they just read, "Making Lemonade".

Oklee Project: The NE corner is completed at 2nd and Main Also, the first colors are being placed on the City of Oklee's Municipal building. Brown is the trim strip and the siding going up is a dusty blue color.

The rumbling was nice the lightening was not that big but we didn’t get more than ten drops. I counted them.

 Brett and Hannah Gerardy of Thief River Falls, are the proud parents of a baby boy born June 15th. His name is Jett Dean and is welcomed home by big brother Sawyer.
