Tractor Trivia
Sunday I got to head to East Grand Forks for the Lake Agassiz Two Cylinder Club annual tractor trek. I believe I wrote about the experience last year. Last year we started out our ride in Winger, MN, and headed to Fertile to Erickson’s Smokehouse. But, in the middle of the ride we got a DOWNPOUR!! We were all soaked when we arrived at Fertile! We dried off visited and did have some great food but, some of us decided to get a ride back to WInger to get our trailers and avoid the cold, wet trip back on the tractors.
This year we started at the Heritage Village in EGF. Although the morning was a bit cool it turned out to be a great tractor tiding day. At about 2:00PM we headed for Euclid. If I counted right we had 11 tractors. An M Farmall, an 8N Ford, a 4000 Ford, 2- A John Deeres, 2-50 John Deeres, an H John Deere ,a B John Deere, a 730 John Deere, and on the way we “picked-up” a GB Minneapolis Moline.
Personally the route was some on some roads that I personally have not traveled so it is always fun to see some new country side! Once again the One-N-Only Bar and Grill had nice menu and I don’t think anyone went home hungry!
Part of the conversation I was able to get in on as we sat around the table was driving pieces of equipment down the road for long stretches. One story that was kind of amazing was driving a 141 International Combine from Fargo to the Fosston, MN area and it was used to combine sunflowers. The combine was able to get all the sunflowers off while only breaking one belt, pretty good! I had to chime because several years ago I bought a 4020 John Deere near Warroad, MN. I friend of mine said I could use his trailer but the a wheel bearing was out. So I decided to drive the 4020 home. My son, Marshall, and I headed for Warroad with a couple containers of diesel fuel. I left home at about 75 degrees in a T-shirt and arrived in Warroad at 56 degrees and a light rain. After digging around in my vehicle I found a sweatshirt so off I went . I did get a little damp and it was cold but eventually I drove out of the rain and made it home in 6 ½ hours.
