Threshing grain has started in the Amish community near Gonvick

Threshing grain is separating the loosened chaff from the grain.  Today it is done mostly by a combine which can harvest, thresh and winnow the grain while it is in the field. The large machines that are used can automatically thresh and separate the grain and puts it into a grain wagon that is ready to haul to local elevators.

Last week at the David Mast residence south west of Gonvick was a little different as a crew of Amish was busy gathering the stalks of grain that had been stood up for drying.

Two wagons hitched up to work horses went into the field with several people tossing the sheaves up onto the wagon. When it was high enough they went back to where the threshing machine was ready to run the grain through to separate the grain.
