Gary Godtland of Fosston was one of the few people who were still in their campers at the Pine Lake Campground last Monday morning when the winds blew. He returned to Fosston as fast as he could. Wesley Coleman from Grand Forks has a permanent cabin on Pine Lake and heard the thunder and saw the lightning and that is when the power went out. About 11:50 p.m. he heard the sound of a train before the roof of his cabin went off. The east end was untouched but the side facing Pine Lake was where the damage occurred. The propane tank was moved and lines were broken. He could smell the odor from the tank. Brandon Carlson from Denver, Colorado had only two broken windows on his cabin after the storm that hit Pine Lake in the wee hours of Monday morning. But his pontoon was thrown off the lift and went 500 feet without any marks in the grass indicating that it had not touched ground before it landed. The cover from the motor was also found in the campground. Terry and Heidi Storm of Erskine had just moved into their spot at the Pine Lake campground south of Gonvick this spring. Their trailer is upside down but their new deck they had put in was in great shape. The ball fields in Winger were in bad shape after a strong storm with rotation, possibly a tornado struck the town, demolished the scoreboard, fencing and stands at the ball field. A late night storm that hit NW Minnesota Sunday night did considerable damage in Winger. Calvary Lutheran Church had severe damage. An apparent tornado touched down at the City of Fosston’s cable TV east of Fosston on the Columbia road. The Verizon cell tower that was a self supporting tower twisted and buckled. The antennas that receive all of their other local channels were also destroyed as well as two large satellite dishes that receive numerous other channels. It will take some time to get everything restored while they wait for new dishes to arrive and be assembled. Storms hit hard around the area in the overnight hours of Sunday, August 26 Tue, 08/28/2018 - 11:56am admin Section: News
