RLCC presents “Arsenic and Old Lace” April 18-20th

RLCC High School in Oklee will be presenting the three act mystery comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace”  by Joseph Kesselring by special arrangement with Dramatics Publishing Company on April 18th, 19th and 20th at 7:30 PM in the Oklee gymnasium.

This classic comedy has been a delight for audiences since 1940. This comedy is about our hero Mortimer Brewster (Tom Nelson) who just asked his girlfriend Elaine Harper (Kara Longtin) to marry him.

It seems Elaine and the Brewster sisters had set the trap for Mortimer weeks earlier. Everything seems to be going perfectly until Mortimer’s job as a theater critic threw in a wrench in the proceedings.

Abby Brewster (Sydney Melby) and Martha Brewster (Hannah Kolstoe) get caught in one of their charities. Mortimer reenacted a stupid murder mystery play he was going to see that had a murder occur on stage and the body had been hidden in the window seat.

As Mortimer opened the window seat in the Brewster home, there was a body. He is always quick to jump to conclusions believing his brother Teddy (Natalie Aakhus) had killed a man. His sweet old aunts admitted that they had poisoned Mr. Hoskins and had put him in the window seat while Rev. Dr. Harper (Britain Arlt) was having tea. It was one of their charities to help lonely miserable old men find eternal peace. At the same time Officer Brophy (Tera Qualley) and Officer Klein (Jayden Iverson) were patrolling the area and are friends of the Brewsters.  They missed the dead man in the window seat.

Mortimer is stunned out about his dear, sweet aunts having poisoned an elderly man. That wasn’t as bad when the two lovely aunts mentioned that there were twelve bodies buried in the cellar. More twists occur as another brother Jonathan Brewster (Nick Pahlen), a killer of world wide distinction and his partner Dr. Einstein (Jade Person) were on the run from the police. These two have also killed twelve people all around the world.

Joanthan  had came home to have Dr. Einstein give him a new face since he was a plastic surgeon. He now looks like Boris Karloff.  He always hated Mortimer and figures it was a good time to eliminate him.

Mortimer and Jonathan had an argument and were about to come to blows when Officer O’Hara (Dede Walton) stopped by. O’Hara thought that she was a playwright and wanted Mortimer to help her write a play. Mortimer is a prisoner in his Aunt’s house as he had to sit through hours of tedious story of O’Hara’s police experiences.   The other police show up looking for O’Hara and Lieutenant Rooney, the hard nosed detective (Heather Longtin) shows up with Mr. Witherspoon (Abby Walton) to make sure Teddy Brewster goes to Happy Dale Sanitarium.

This is a play of disappearing bodies, errors of judgment, and hilarious situations that everyone of all ages would enjoy.   Admission for the show is only $5.00. Mark your calendars for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday-Thursday April 18th-20th.
