Band students from RLCC at the Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest included (Standing) RLCC band teacher Mrs. Patty Mickelson, Emily Kolstoe, Janae Olson, Jayden Iverson, Hannah Kolstoe, Matt Vettleson, Sydney Melby, Faith Hanson, Katelyn Suchy, Ariel Bakken, and Karena Melby, (kneeling) Brock Tvedt, Tristyn Ferguson, and Brody Moen.

Two sets of sisters from RLCC competed at Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest: Karena and Sydney Melby, Hannah and Emily Kolstoe. Sydney and Hannah are seniors and will be graduating this spring.

Eleven members of the Red Lake County Central band attended the Instrumental Solo and Ensembles Contest at the East Grand Forks High School on Thursday, April 26. Hannah Kolstoe, playing “Pastel Minuet” on the clarinet earned an excellent rating. Katelyn Suchy also got an excellent rating on “Menuet K164” on the trumpet. Karena Melby played “The Entertainer” on the saxophone and also got excellent rating.

Brody Moen, Tristyn Ferguson, and Brock Tvedt were a trio on the trumpets playing “Raider’s March.” Faith Hanson, Janae Olson, and Emily Kolstoe were the flute trio playing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Both of these trios received excellent ratings. Sydney Melby, Jayden Iverson, and Karena Melby played “Romanze” as a saxophone trio and earned a superior rating for their piece.
