RLCC’s Play This Year Is Called “Freak” By Angela Hill

RLCC’s one cat play this year is a serious play called “Freak” by Angela Hill, a newer playwright from Fargo, North Dakota. The play is being presented by special arrangement by Brooklynn Publishers. This is a serious production with the cast being members of a circus freak show.   Each of the actors have baggage of past histories when a new freak appears, Monique. She doesn’t know where she is or why she is there. She is so confused and her confusion grows as she meets the freaks from the circus.

The other freaks try welcoming her to their little band but all of them seem surreal.

This is a play about bullying and the costs of those acts of cruelty. All of the freaks in the show have committed suicide and are doomed to repeat their lives in this Pergatory.  Monique is  entering this realm but, though she has tried to commit suicide, she has the chance to go back to the living to make her life better. She meets one who is going to heaven and she also meets Hope. The choice is hers.

This is a very serious play commenting on the problems of bullying and the costs of ignoring these bullies. The cast this year is Monique: Sydney Melby; Sissy: Karena Melby; Bella and Jane: Emily Kolstoe; Damien: Tom Nelson; Lyle: Jeremiah Ransack; Pogo the clown: Britain Arlt; Benny and Squeeky the clown: David Clifton; Flora and Fauna: Kara Longtin; Kitty and Vivian: Abby Walton; Maniacal Max: Jade Person; It: Jonathan Roue; Vincent the fortune teller: Dan Guillemette, Lights: Stephen Sogla and Erin Jones.   Director: Michael Swenson.

This year the one act contest will be held in Bagley on Friday January 26th.
