Rick Koivisto inducted to Hall of Fame

Long-time area coach Rick Koivisto has been selected for induction into the Minnesota Girls Basketball Hall of Fame.
Rick Koivisto is a native of the Iron Range and played basketball for two years at Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minnesota. He went on to Bemidji State University where he graduated with a degree in elementary education and minor in special-education.
He began his career teaching fourth grade in the Plummer Independent School District taking over the girls basketball position in 1977, and was the head coach for the next 35 years. Plummer co-oped with Oklee in 1987 and became Red Lake County Central until his retirement in 2011.
While compiling a career Record of 507 -312, Rick was named Section 8 Coach of the Year twice and won seven conference championships and were the Section 8 champions in 2008 -2009. During his tenure, 11 girls have joined the 1000 point club and the 1991-92 team was the Academic State Champion.
Coach Koivisto is a lifetime member of the Girls Basketball Coaches Association.
The Induction ceremonies was held on April 9 in Northfield.
