Red Lake County Fair June 24, 25, 26

Red Lake County Fair is coming to Oklee June 24-26. The fair is one of the best events of the summer! Stop by Oklee to take part in all the activities described below. 

Red Lake County will kick off fair week with an opening ceremony on June 24, at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Red Lake County Central school. After the ceremony there will be donuts and coffee for the public. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the public is welcome to enter their projects in the Open Class entry. At this time members of 4-H will have Open Class judging in the barns. At 1:00 p.m. Senior Citizens are invited to attend the Senior Citizen event at the Oklee Community Hall where an Outstanding Senior Citizen Award will be given out. Play bingo to win prizes. Also at this time open class entries from 4-H will be judged in the multipurpose room. At 2:00 p.m. all ages are invited to join a coloring contest held at the fair office inside the RLCC school building. This is a great time to put your coloring skills to the test! Grab a friend and meet at the East side of the RLCC High School for a scavenger hunt at 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Community Old Time Music will be playing. At 8:00 p.m. the Booths close so make sure to stop in the RLCC High School gym any time before 8:00 p.m. to have a look at the great Open Class entries and business booths.  

On Saturday, June 25 at 8:15 a.m. 5K registration begins on the South side of the RLCC High School. If you are interested in taking part in the 5K, contact Jessie at Jessie.hamrum@gmail.com. Then at 9:00 a.m. the Open class entries and business booths open up for the day, so stop back in the gym to check out those. Community Social Hour will start at 10:30. From 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. various demonstrations will take place in the Oklee Community Hall. Rosemaling with Connie Nelson and Sewing Table Toppers with Shirley Dessellier will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Also starting at 11:30 and running until 1:30 p.m. Bobbi DuChamp will show how to Hand Stamp Jewelry. If you’re interested in making a vinyl sign, see Bobbie Olson from 1:30-3:30 p.m. to create your own wall hanging. Sign making will cost $25.  1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Laurel Smith will be demonstrating how to make homemade Jelly. Also stop by her station to purchase some fresh jelly. At 1:00 p.m. at the South City Park (2 miles south and 1.5 miles west of Oklee), Old Fashioned Games and Dunk Tank will be set up for all ages to play. Then at 2:00 p.m. head out to the “Oklee Pits” at the South City Park for the Baja Races. 4-H awards will be given out at 6:30 p.m. Then at 8:00 p.m. the booths in the gym will be closed for the day. To close the night off, a street Dance will be held in front the TJ’s Tavern at 9:00 p.m.

The last day of the fair will be on Sunday, June 26. To start off the day, Bingo will be played at the Oklee Community Hall for anyone that is interested. Then stop by the front of the school to watch the Mini Tractor Pull at 12:30 a.m. This is one of the favored events of the year. Head back to the “Oklee Pits” at the South City Park at 2:00 p.m for a Demo Derby. To end fair week, there will be a Variety of Talent Show at the Oklee Community Hall starting at 3:00 p.m. Then at 5:00 p.m. the release of exhibits will take place in the gym. Anyone who participated in Open Class entry needs to collect their entries and pick up their awards.
