Many cars entered the pit to race on Sunday, June 25th during the Red Lake County Fair. Despite the wind and the on and off rain showers at the Red Lake County Fair’s Baja Race there were many people that attended and many cars that raced. There were not only out-of-town racers but many local racers as well.
There were four classes to race in; 6 cylinder, 4 cylinder, pickups and 8 cylinders and Powderpuff. The winners in the 6 cylinder were Conway Hamm in First Place, Jorgen Qualley in Second Place, and Rob Lisburg in Third Place. In the 4-Cylinder Class the winners were Alex Severson in First Place, Dylan Gustafson in Second, and Jon Erickson in Third. The winners in the pickups and 8 cylinder class were Brady Hanson in First Place, Kailin Larson in Second, and John Kujava in Third. In the Powderpuff race the winners were Liz Kulvik in First Place, Daylnn Kainze in Second, and Jamie Mollber in Third.
During each race there were many cars that ran into the tractor tires that served as the edges of the tracks. There was also many cars that lost tires, died out on the track, and sometimes there were large clouds of smoke coming from cars, but all was well when there were clouds of smoke from the cars because the Oklee Fire Department was there.
When all the races were done there w s a race that anyone could race in. In this last race everyone had to pay $5 to enter and the winner would get it all. It was very fun to see everyone race especially the local racers.
