Channel 35 has started the year ready to broadcast sporting and school events. COVID doesn’t do anything to reduce productivity or stop production/hinder any day-to-day activities. They have been inspired to post more “C” and “Junior Varsity’’ games. The Media Club is limited to four students per game. Two students run the Tricaster, and two students commentate on the game. Members of the club rotate between the C game, Junior Varsity game, and the Varsity game.
Remi Rathsack and Steven Sogla have been members of the Media crew the longest. Remi started running a camera and the Tricaster when he was in seventh grade. Steven Sogla joined the camera and sound team not long after. Jed Duden started announcing with Channel 35 with Phillip Sorenson two years ago and came back to commentate with Tyler Eskeli and new announcer Peyton Fish. Last year Michael Lowell, Zach Cater, Hannah Bassage, Orin Hofstad, Everett Svendson, and Thomas Benson contributed behind the scenes.
Last year, the Media crew opened up to 7th graders new members, including Guy Bergeson, Gavin Thomas, Hunter Dudycha, and Landon Klasen on commentary. Learning about the camera and sound systems included Ciara Mitzner, Hannah Dudycha, Dan May, Kane Nelson, and Quinn Graves from the veteran members. This year, these members and new member Evelyn Klamm will be broadcasting Junior High, C games Junior Varsity, and some Varsity games.
The Media Club records most school events and several sports activities. They are looking to expand announcing games, playing commercials, doing interviews, and editing games. The media club has plans to expand to football games and create a weekly program showcasing students, staff, and community members. They plan on increasing membership to seventh graders this winter during basketball and wrestling season.
For the most part, if nothing goes wrong, which it does, the media club is a fun and engaging activity that can open up many opportunities for its members. Most of the club is good at communicating and working together under pressure. Sometimes very intense pressure when the Tricaster freezes or the internet shuts down.
The advisor for the Channel 35 Media Club is Mrs. Bobbi Aakhus.
