Red Lake County Central Awards Day 2018

The annual Awards Day for Red Lake County Central was held Wednesday, May 9. Many students were recognized for their academic and extracurricular achievements.
Mr. Randall Pederson, principal at RLCC, presented the Attendance Awards to those who missed one day or less of school including Juniors: Andrew Fish, Thomas Nelson, and Justin Nemec; sophomore: Adrianne Jones; freshmen: Bryan Meyer and Katelyn Suchy; eighth graders: Peyton Fish and Lillian Hanson; and seventh graders: Carson Lambert, Shawna Majeres, Arielle Rude, and Payton Rystad.
Principal Pederson also presented the Academic Letter Award to those who had achieved a 3.75 cumulative GPA or above. The awards went to Seniors: Hannah Kolstoe, Sydney Melby, Katie Olson, and Matt Vettleson for their fourth year; Juniors: Marie Johnson received the letter award for her third year and Andrew Fish for his second year; Sophomores: Calyssa Eskeli, Christopher Longtin, and Derek Peterson received the award for the second year and Lily Guillemette and Adrianne Jones for their first year; Freshmen: Kia Bachand, Daniel Guillemette, Emily Kolstoe, Karena Melby, and Janae Olson all received their award for their first year.
Mr. Bryan Pasdkvan presented the Outstanding Senior Math award to Katie Olson. The Outstanding Senior English Award was given to Sydney Melby by Mr. Mike Swenson.  Mr. Steven Strutz presented the Outstanding Senior Award to Hannah Kolstoe. The Outstanding Senior Social Studies Award was presented to Matt Vettleson from Mr. Randy Huie. The Outstanding Technology Award went to Billie Jo Gryskiewicz by Mr. Michael Illies.
Riverwatch Awards given to this year’s Riverwatch team from their advisor Ms. Shelley Steva included plaques and certificates for Tanisha Srnsky, Sidney Olson, Kaitlyn Morris, and Erin Jones. Certificates were presented to Britain Arlt, Courtney Rude, Garrett Qualley, and Brandie DeHate.
Student Senate Awards were presented by their advisor, Mr. Randy Huie. Officer awards went to Sydney Melby, President; Jade Person, Vice President; Calyssa Eskeli, Secretary; and Jenna Pahlen, Treasurer. Class senators were also recognized. Seniors: Jayden Fore, Erin Jones, and Kara Longtin. Juniors: Julia Bernstein and Dawson Rystad. Sophomores: Britain Arlt and Lily Guillemette. Freshmen: Kia Bachand and Karena Melby. Eighth graders: Cari Bachand and Taya Morinville. Seventh graders: Gerald Melin and Aurimy Olson.
Dedication of the 2018 Yearbook was given by David Clifton and Sara Simon, along with the senior class to Ms. Shelly Steva.
Mr. Kory Baril presented the Senior Tri-Athlete Awards to Matt Vettleson for participating in football, basketball, and baseball; Billie Jo Gryskiewicz for participating in volleyball, basketball, and softball; and Ethan Vettleson for participating in football, basketball, and track.
Speech letter winners were presented by Ms. Jessie Hamrum and Mrs. Bobbi Aakhus. Lettering were Jayden Fore, Jayden Iverson, Jonathan Roue, Lily Guillemette, Mariah Peterson, Phillip Sorenson, Remi Rathsack, and Sydney Melby. There was also a state tournament certificate for participating given to Lily Guillemette. 
Knowledge Bowl Awards were given by Mr. Bryan Paskvan to Seniors: Hannah Kolstoe, Jayden Fore, Jade Person, Sydney Melby, Katie Olson, Seth Paradis, Ethan Vettleson, and Nick Pahlen. Juniors: Julia Bernstein, Andrew Fish, Marie Johnson, Daphney Koralewski, Phillip Sorenson, and Sydnie Gunderson. Sophomores: Lily Guillemette, Calyssa Eskeli, Sophie Linder, Chris Longtin, Derek Peterson.  Junior High: Brody Moen, Elijah Rathsack, Danny Guillemette, and Aurora Mitzner. 
Drama Awards for the one act play were given to Seniors: Sydney Melby, Jade Person, David Clifton, and Kara Longtin and Erin Jones for her tech work; Junior Tom Nelson; Sophomores: Britan Arlt, Abby Walton: Freshman: Danny Guillemette, Karena Melby, Emily Kolstoe; Eighth Graders: Remi Rathsack , and Jonathan Roue. Awards for the three-act play were presented to David Clifton, Lily Guillemette, Danny Guillemette, Sydney Melby, Jayden Iverson, Kara Longtin, Jade Person, Nick Pahlen, Hannah Kolstoe, Tom Nelson, Remi Rathsack, and Jonathan Roue. Jayden Fore received a plaque for her many years of involvement in theater.
Six year Math and Science Awards were given to Matt Vettleson, Katie Olson, Hannah Kolstoe, and Jayden Fore by math teachers Mrs. Sue Lee and Mr. Bryan Paskvan, and science teachers Mr. Michael Illies and Mr. Steven Strutz.
Senior Countdown Award it was presented by Mr. Steven Strutz to Tyler Jensen. 
Mr. Steven Strutz presented the Envirothon Awards to the top scoring team including sophomores Calyssa Eskeli, Chris Longtin, Derek Peterson, Jenna Pahlen, and Sophia Linder. 
A variety of music awards were presented by Mrs. Patty Mickelson. Those lettering in choir this year were: Allison Aakhus, David Clifton, Brandie DeHate, Jayden Iverson, Adrianne Jones, Sidney Olson and Abby Walton. Those receiving bars for choir are: Kara Longtin, Sydney Melby, Nick Pahlen and Phillip Sorenson.
Students receiving a letter for band included: Karena Melby and Sydney Melby. Hannah Kolstoe received a bar for band. Students who received six year choir awards were: Rosie Christianson, Billie Jo Gryskiewicz, Holly Johnsrud, Kara Longtin, Sydney Melby, Katie Olson, Nick Pahlen and Linsey Thompson. Hannah Kolstoe, Matt Vettleson, Sydney Melby and Katie Olson received six year band awards.
The Junior High MVP Choir Award was given to Cari Bachand and the Band MVP award was given to Gunnar Sandeen. The Senior High MVP Choir Award was given to Sydney Melby and the Band MVP Award was given to Matt Vettleson.
Minnesota Honor Society members were also listed in the program including seniors: Hannah Kolstoe, Sydney Melby, Kara Longtin, Katie Olson, Jayden Fore, Erin Jones, and Matt Vettleson; juniors: Jarisa Bailey, Julia Bernstein, Marie Johnson, Andrew Fish, and Sydnie Gunderson; sophomores: Calyssa Eskeli, Jayden Iverson, Lily Guillemette, Adrianne Jones, and Sophia Linder.
