The 23rd annual Red Lake County Central High School Academic Awards Banquet was on April 9, 2018. The RLCC Academic Banquet is held annually during the fourth quarter. Students in grades 9-12 who have maintained a 3.5 GPA in core academic classes (English, Science, Math and Social Studies) during the first, second, and third quarters of the current school year are presented with medals recognizing their achievement.
The banquet began with the welcome and invocation given by Principal Randall Pederson. After the welcome and invocation, dinner was served.
The speaker of the 24th annual Academics Awards Banquet was Angie Lundeen. Lundeen was part of the Oklee High School Class of 1998 and is currently the Human Resources Director for Red Lake County.
Academic medals were then awarded to student attendees in grades9-12. The ninth grade attendees were: Kia Bachand, Adriel Bakken, Daniel Guillemette, Emily Kolstoe, Karena Melby, Janae Olson, and Katelyn Suchy. Sophomore attendees were: Zachary Benson, Calyssa Eskeli, Lillyan Guillemette, Jayden Iverson, Adrianne Jones, Sophia Linder, Christopher Longtin, Derek Peterson, and Abigail Walton.
Junior attendees were: Jarisa Bailey, Andrew Fish, Marie Johnson, and Zoe Russillo. Senior attendees were: Hannah Kolstoe, Kara Longtin, Sydney Melby, Katie Olson, and Matthew Vettleson.
Next, senior awards were presented for each of the core classes. The winner of the Mathematics Award presented by math teacher Mr. Bryan Paskvan was Katie Olson. The Science Award presented by science teacher Mr. Steven Strutz was awarded to Hannah Kolstoe.
Mr. Randy Huie presented the Social Studies Award to Matthew Vettleson. The final award presented was the English Award presented by Mr. Michael Swenson and awarded to Sydney Melby. After the presentation of the senior awards closing remarks were given by Mr. Pederson.
Students in the eighth grade who have also maintained a 3.5 GPA in the core classes during the first three quarters of the current school year were asked to serve as waitresses and waiters. These students for 2017-2018 school year were: Cari Bachand, Zach Cater, Jed Duden, Tyler Eskeli, Peyton Fish, Michael Lowell, Taya Morinville, Kjerstin Nelson, Leah Peterson, Jonathan Roue, Bailey Sherman, Steven Sogla, and Halie Thompson.
