Oklee Cafe site of Veteran’s display honoring the men who served

The idea of having a wall of honor started with Oklee’s Post Office gal, Mädchen Mero, NTFT (non-traditional full-time clerk), or Mae as we all call her affectionately.  

Mae had on display a photograph of her grandfather, Glen Walizer who served in WWII holding her mother. She thought of making one entire wall in the post office as a display to honor all veterans in the community and started asking for others to bring their photos of loved ones to display.

Everyone loved the idea and the Oklee American Legion took it one step farther. After talking to Mae Mero and Teresa Benson, of the Oklee Cafe, both agreed to allow the display to be moved from the post office to the cafe and the display has been growing ever since. 

Mae was happy it was well received and is glad that it is continuing to grow and hopes it will continue for years.
