The Clear Waters Life Center (CWLC) was incorporated in July 2004 as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation as a community response to the vacating of the Clearbrook and Gonvick schools. Where others saw old, decaying buildings, CWLC visionaries saw potential for life and hope. The renovation of the buildings and subsequent development of programs created a center which promotes healthy families and relationships and provides low-cost services and experiences to help people reach their full potential.

Darien Northup is the Executive Director of CWLC. He has been involved in its operations since its founding. Darien and his wife of 42 years, Laferne, live North of Leonard MN. They are relative newcomers to Clearwater County having moved here in 2006. They have four children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. They are longtime members of Country Faith Church of Clearbrook serving as Elders overseeing missions. They recently established a new church plant in Clover township, New Life Fellowship and serve as Elders there.
