Memories of Hunting Season 2018

For ninety-two year old Kermit Kjolhaug, it was a fine hunting season as he returned to the Century Farm upon which he was raised. Back to the 1800’s men in the family have gathered to hunt upon the land and this year was no different. Wrapped in the midst of his sons, who could ask for more? All four were present. Pete from Clearbrook, Paul from Cokato, Mark from Shoreview, and John from Red Wing coaxed the patriarch of the family into the house so he, too, could gather around the table to hear the stories.

Man to man this year it was as grandsons Andy Kjolhaug from Alexandria and Christopher Kjolhaug from Fargo were present. One great grandson, Eli, gathered with grandpa as well when the camper pulled in. Those who could stay in the hunting cabin did. Those who could stay in the farmhouse did. And grandpa was given privilege to a camper which provided not only comfort but easy access to a nap when needed. 

Let it be known that he has granddaughters who hunt as well, but they were not present this year.

He was not disappointed as four deer were taken opening weekend of 2018. When Kermit was not drinking coffee round the table, he was off with his sons who took him to Gonvick, his old stomping grounds. 

Taking a turn down one road, he suddenly thought it looked familiar. Sure enough, it was the house that he used to live in that EvaLee Janssen now owns. So, as small town friendly would have it, out Evalee came waving them in for a cup of coffee round her table. Memories were shared and community lived out as Gonvick is home in his heart.

Grandpa is proud from whence he came and understandably so. The treasure trove of memories has been handed down generationally to those dearest…who, in turn…treasure the communities from which they now hale.

Thank you Gonvick, Evalee, and small towns everywhere for offering not only respite, but memories that last a lifetime.
