Market Day was great fun!

August 12th was a perfect day for Market Day with great weather and perfect temperatures. The Key Hunt rules were given out in the morning so searchers could look for the keys.

The Market Day 5K Walk/Run had approximately 66 persons participating. This year the profits were donated to Second Chance For Life Foundation. The Market Day winners are listed below in the photo.

There were more vendors than past years with lots of great products and crafts. The only thing missing was the garden booths selling vegetables. 

There were hand painted tennis shoes, quilted items, small painted furniture items, recycled denim bags, handmade cards, crocheted doilies, wooden crafts along with products from Avon, Plexus, Lemongrass Spa, Monat, just to name a few.

The Car/Motorcycle/Tractor Show was again a popular part of Market Day. Wild Wes was there providing fun music while you walked around the great vehicles on display. 

Winners of the Car Show drawning was $25: Alan Bluemke; $50: Molly Amberson; and $75 Terry Cook.

North of town on Danny & Ethan Klasen's land along Cty Rd 5, the Oklee Market Day Plowing Demostration was held. There were a number of tractors and plows that came out for the event. 

The dry ground made it tough for a few of the plows to get a bite into the ground and there were a few fellows gladly sitting on the plows to add weight. 

The Sidewalk Chalk drawing contest had a lot of contestants in three different age groups. There are some very talented chalk artists. The winners in the Ages 5 - 8 were: 1st: Ellie Nelson; 2nd: Keaton & Karter Dallmann; and 3rd: Eli Nelson.

Ages 9 - 12: 1st: Hannah Dudycha; 2nd: Paige Olson; and 3rd: Luci Svendson.

Adults: 1st: Bailey & Amy Sherman; 2nd: Lars Schue; and 3rd: Cindy Dallmann, Deb Amiot and Kadie Amiot.

The Oklee Market Day Quilt Show was again a popular event. These talented people working with fabric make the most beautiful quilts and it is a hard choice to pick out the winners. The winners are listed to the left with their project.

There was also a Bed Turning event at the Quilt Show which was interesting bit of story telling about special quilts.

There were also a few food vendors around town for Market Day. The regular groups, Zion Lutheran and American Legion were set up and did wonderful business. 

In addition to these two vendors there was also "The Kart" who had lots of unique sandwmiches and the "Snow Sled Inn," who unfortunately had problems with equipment and had to leave. 

The Oklee Cafe and TJ's Tavern also had food and from reports served many meals.

In the afternoon, more activites were planned. There were Old Fashioned Street games for all ages and included games such as the shoe kick, three-legged race, egg toss, and for adults only, beer guzzling contest. There was also a sand pile filled with coins for the kids to dig through. And there was a golf ball drop at the end of the games.

New this year was an ATV Pull which was held behind D & R Grocery. There were contestants with 4-Wheelers and Ranger types of vehicles ready to run. The winners were on the Canary Front page last week if you want to see the photos. Here is the winners:

Winners were announced at different times of the day. 

The Key Hunt: 7 keys were hidden with only one opening the lock. Brody Rystad found 3 keys, Carlee Whalen found 2 keys, Gavin Thomas found 1 key and Peyton O'Neill found 1 key and was the one that opened the lock.

The late afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. the Market Day Chili/Beer/Wine contest was held. There were three chili contestants and only one beer contestant. All three chili's were very tasty and the beer was good also, though it is too bad there wasn't more competition. Winners & contestants photos and winnings listed below.

A pulled pork sandwich, salad and beverage was available for anyone wanting to eat and it was very delicious which was followed by great entertainment by Brady Grove and Jordyn Johnsrud.

Grove is Oklee's own magician who had expanded his act with a few new tricks to figure out and Johnsrud, from up north...Goodridge...and she had a very powerful voice as she sang familiar songs as well as some of her own compositions.

Open Mic was available and at 9:00 a.m. TJ's Tavern had an evening a great music to finish off the day.
